Towards the Appointment of a new Incumbent

During August the Archdeacon has met with the Wardens and PCCs of Thornbury and Oldbury to initiate the process of appointing a successor to David.  During these meetings the PCCs affirmed that we would accept an Incumbent of either gender.  The Parish now has two principal tasks to undertake: the appointment of two Parish Representatives from the PCC to take part in the short listing and interviewing of applicants and the production of a Parish Profile which will be sent to all applicants and also the interviewing panel.

Thornbury PCC has chosen Peter Craig and Mike Spiller to be our Parish Representatives and Oldbury has chosen Meg Adnams and Andrew Gazard.  Mike Spiller will convene a small group to assemble the Thornbury part of the Parish Profile, a document which has to be ready by early October so that it may be sent to clergy who show interest in the Post.  It is most important that this document accurately reflects the nature and ethos of the Parish and the qualities we feel will be important in the new Incumbent.

Although the above work is being co-ordinated by a small group, it is important that everyone who so wishes makes an input so that our representatives know the mind of the Parish and that this is reflected in our Profile.  There are a number of routes for doing this: talk directly to Mike and Peter; talk to the Wardens (Peter Craig, Timothy Swan, Phil Jones) or any PCC member; talk to others involved in the work of assembling the profile document (Elizabeth Cooke, Jonathan Griffiths, Marjory Entwistle).

Please make your views known; it is vital for the health of the Benefice that we do a good job.

Timetable: Profile ready early October
Post advertised widely 29th October and 5th November
Closing Date for applicants 18th November
 Short listing 22nd November
 Interviews in Thornbury 8th December

If all goes well we would hope to have a new Incumbent in place sometime between Easter and Trinity 2011
